South Van Ness Entrance to Muni Metro Station
Closed for Construction Monday, May 20 to Friday, May 24
The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA), which manages transportation in the city including the Municipal Railway (Muni), will soon complete renovation of the escalator at the northwest entrance of the Van Ness Metro Station leading to the parking lot. In order to finish the project, the entrance must be shut down to remove the wooden structure that secures the work area. As a result, the entrance will be closed from Monday, May 20 to Friday, May 24. All other Van Ness entrances and the station elevator will remain open and accessible.
After the wooden structure is removed, the new escalator is required to pass the state inspection and certification process, which could take up to two weeks before it is returned to service.
The completion of the escalator will conclude Phase One of the Metro Station Escalator Rehabilitation Project. The project started in January 2012. Phase One included escalator renovation at Church Street Station, at the Hallidie Plaza entrance to Powell Street Station and at Van Ness Station.
Thank you for your support and patience as we work to improve your Muni system.
