Crews made great progress on the Valencia Street Bikeway Improvements Project last week, accomplishing several important tasks on Valencia Street.
The SFMTA paint shop worked at a rapid pace and removed all center running bikeway intersection striping between 16th and 22nd streets. We also removed bike lane infrastructure all the way to 17th Street. Wet weather affected the grouting between 18th and 19th streets, so crews will need to regrout this area. Grouting keeps water out of the bottom of the street base, preventing future underground erosion and potholes.
This week, crews are scheduled to work on: removing bike lane infrastructure and grouting, as well as any necessarily touch-ups from rain impacts at the locations listed below.
Coming up: Paving
In two weeks, the center-running bike lane will be gone, and we will begin to pave the center of the street. Paving will require us to temporarily restrict some parking on Valencia to accommodate paving operations and related traffic routing around the work zone. During paving there may be noise and traffic impacts. Paving is anticipated to take about 1-2 days per block and about 3 weeks to complete the entire corridor. In next week’s update, we’ll share more details about paving work so that you can prepare.
Those traveling on the corridor are advised to stay alert and allow more travel time during construction. You may want to consider traveling on parallel streets during construction. Signage and flaggers will direct people on bikes and in cars.
The work listed below is scheduled for Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
