Lots of fun on tap for this sunny October weekend: Hardly Strictly Bluegrass will keep the Park hopping, and the umpteenth Castro Street Fair will celebrate the neighborhood in all its new fancy streetscape finery.
Hardly Strictly Bluegrass
Friday through Sunday, 11a.m. to 7 p.m.
Golden Gate Park
This weekend would be the perfect time to heed the classic lyric “let’s have a picnic, go to the park” for all day music – the super-sized edition. The 14th annual Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival kicks off on Friday in Golden Gate Park’s Hellman Hollow and Lindley and Marx meadows.
Three days of free music across six stages featuring dozens of performances by everyone from emerging artists to marquee names including Emmylou Harris, Vince Gill, Mavis Staples and T Bone Burnett.
Street parking will be limited, consider using public transportation. Bluegrass fanatics can take the 5 Fulton, 5L Fulton Limited, 28 19th Avenue, 29 Sunset, 31 Balboa, 38 Geary, 44 O’Shaughnessy, 71 Haight/Noriega, and N Judah.

Castro Street Fair
Sunday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Castro Street from 16th to 19th streets
It’s the first Sunday of October, meaning it’s time for the Castro Street Fair an annual tradition started by Harvey Milk. Celebrate the artists, craftspeople, and merchants that bring life and pride to the neighborhood and make it a must see destination in the city.
Entertainment venues will be spread across five different locations and will feature music, dance, a drag show, and a performance of the award winning musical hit, Avenue Q.
To ease congestion and traffic in the area, fair goers are encouraged to take public transportation courtesy of the F Market, 24 Divisadero, 33 Stanyan, 35 Eureka, 37 Corbett or Muni Metro to Castro Station.
Muni service note: Due to street closures, the F Market, 24 Divisadero, 33 Stanyan, 35 Eureka, 37 Corbett, and early morning K-L-M Owl bus service will see re-routes and switchbacks during the day.
