The Howard Street Buffered Bikeway Project is a near-term safety enhancement project on Howard Street between 6th and 10th streets.
This project will increase safety and comfort for people who walk and ride a bike by creating a buffered bicycle lane, painting temporary sidewalk extensions where possible and reducing the width of traffic lanes pedestrians will cross.
These enhancements will be made possible by narrowing the existing three traffic lanes.
The design for the Howard Street Buffered Bikeway Project originates from possible design options identified in previous SoMa area community outreach efforts.
As part of the upcoming project implementation, the SFMTA invites the community to an open house to learn more about the project.
