The SFMTA is holding a public hearing to consider pedestrian safety improvements on Columbus Avenue.
The hearing for this project will be focused on proposed concrete bulb-outs at three locations on Columbus Avenue: Stockton/Green, Vallejo and Grant streets.
The City of San Francisco has observed a significant number of vehicle-pedestrian collisions at these intersections and seeks to better ensure safety for people walking by implementing concrete bulb-outs.
Bulb-outs extend sidewalk space at intersections, which makes pedestrians and cars more visible to each other and reduces the speed of turning vehicles. Seniors and people with disabilities also benefit from a shorter crossing distance.
In efforts to minimize any construction impact to the community, these proposals would be constructed in 2015 in coordination with an upcoming repaving of Columbus Street led by the Department Public Works.
