Evans Avenue Quick-Build Open House

Oct 9
Near the corner of Evans Avenue and Phelps Street

Project Update

In support of the city's Vision Zero goal to eliminate traffic fatalities, the SFMTA aims to create a safer, more livable Evans Avenue between Cesar Chavez and 3rd streets.

As many of you know, this section of Evans, located in the Bayview neighborhood, has 4 lanes (2 in each direction) with bike sharrows. The area is home to commercial retail, light and heavy industrial, and government activities. The 19 Polk Muni bus travels down Evans Avenue and connects to additional Muni lines such as the T Third and 15 Bayview-Hunters Point Express.

There are also several developments along the corridor either being planned, under construction, or recently opened. In addition to increased activity within the area, Evans Avenue is part of San Francisco's Vision Zero High Injury Network (HIN), which means 75% of the city’s traffic injuries and fatalities occur on just 13% of San Francisco streets.

From April to June, we’ve presented three “Quick-Build” designs to address a critical need for traffic, pedestrian and bike safety at community meetings, canvassing along Evans Avenue and distributing surveys. Now, we have scheduled an open house (located outside) to present and discuss the proposed Quick-Build design.
