Walk for Life: Saturday, January 25, 2025

Temporary, reroutes begin as early as 9 a.m. and last until 4:30 p.m.

Event Summary

The Walk for Life will take place on Saturday, January 25, along Market Street. Participants will begin gathering at Civic Center Plaza at 10 a.m. for a rally before they march down Market Street toward The Embarcadero starting at 1:30 p.m. Counter protests are planned which will increase the footprint of closed streets and Muni reroutes compared to previous years. Muni will reroute buses that serve or cross Market Street starting as early as 9 a.m. Read below for more information on which routes will be impacted, when they will be impacted and where to board during the reroutes.

Street Closures

The following streets will be closed to regular traffic from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.:

  • Market Street between 9th and Steuart will be closed to all traffic along the march route
  • McAllister between Grove and Larkin
  • Polk between McAllister and Grove
  • Larkin between McAllister and Hayes
  • Grove between Polk and Market

Getting to Civic Center

The easiest way to get to Civic Center Plaza is via the Market Street Subway. For those travelling within the city, board any Muni light rail vehicle and exit at Civic Center Station. For those travelling into the city via BART, board any Yellow, Red, Green or Blue line train and exit at Civic Center Station.

The table below lists transfer opportunities from the Market Street Subway to rerouted Muni services.

Note: Some service is rerouted to Mission Street, which is a short walk from all Market Street Subway stations.

Muni Service Changes

Some routes will switchback--changing from inbound to outbound--before they reach Market Street. Some routes will operate on Mission Street instead. Most routes that cross Market Street may experience delays of up to 10 minutes. Reroutes start at different times, but all service will return to normal once Market Street is clear.
