Public transit is turning into the perfect meet cute. You know, that moment in your favorite film or TV romantic comedy when the star bumps into, trips over or is otherwise thrust awkwardly at their co-star. This month Calgary Transit is hosting their annual love story competition in hopes of finding a perfect transit rom-com of their own. Every year the contest reaches out to half a million Calgarians who take public transit every weekday. The riders are asked to submit stories for a chance to win a free adult monthly pass and a Valentine’s treat.
In Southeastern Pennsylvania, the folks at SEPTA are also asking their transit riders to share their “moving” love stories to compete for romantic prizes. This year the transit agency is offering an art tour completed with a champagne and chocolate reception.
The New York City MTA’s Transit Museum is hosting a love connection event this Thursday. The “Missed Connections” soiree will give New Yorkers the opportunity to find a sweetheart or connect with their current one in the 1936 decommissioned subway station that houses the museum.
Everyone is eager to climb aboard the love train this weekend. Allow Muni to take you to your romantic destination with ease, perhaps on a cable car—a San Francisco gondola. Or, if you’re looking for a charitable way to celebrate Valentine’s Day, run in your bedroom best at the Cupid’s Undie Run starting noon, Saturday at Pedro’s Cantina, 128 King Street. This weekend is sure to be filled with love connections.
On Tuesdays we bring you a tidbit of transit news or trivia, either from our own backyard or from around the globe. Thanks for joining us.
