Our mobility management programs help people get to places like the San Francisco Music Concourse.
There are many ways to get around San Francisco. You can take Muni, walk, bike, scoot, drive or grab a cab. But for some people, none of those options work. That’s why we offer a variety of transportation services for older adults and people with disabilities.
We highlight these services in “Mobility for Everyone,” the new episode of our Taken with Transportation podcast.
“Even though a Muni bus may stop at someone’s corner, they may not be able to walk two houses down to the corner” says San Francisco Paratransit Operations General Manager Yevette McNeese. “So, it was very essential to get people with different abilities to medical appointments, out to shopping, to their daily social events.”
“Mobility for Everyone” will take you to the SFMTA Mobility Management Center. It is managed by Catherine Callahan.
“The Mobility Management Center really acts as a central hub for anyone who is curious about services for older adults or people with disabilities,” Callahan tells Taken with Transportation Host Melissa Culross. “We help people figure out what is going to be the best solution for their specific circumstances and needs.”
The services we offer include:
- The Paratransit van and taxi program
- The Essential Trip Card program
- The Shop-a-Round shuttle program
- The Van Gogh shuttle program
In the episode, we also talk with Paula Bizcarra. She takes the Shop-a-Round shuttle to the supermarket. “The bus drivers are very nice. They help you with your groceries, and they put the groceries in front of the door,” Bizcarra says. “I’m very happy to have that ride because I’m kind of blind with this eye. I cannot see very well.”
