We've got a busy, fun-filled weekend coming up, which will also include many Muni service changes and, of course, Muni Heritage Weekend. Don't forget to tag us and #MuniHeritage on your vintage vehicle photos on Instagram, Facebook or Twitter to enter the #MuniHeritage photo contest.
Reminder: New Service Changes
The next set of planned service increases take effect on Saturday. Complete service increase details can be found on the Muni Forward information page. For more perspective on some of the service changes, check out our August 28, September 11, and September 18 blog posts.
Events:
Just as the city is set to enjoy some of its best weather of the year, the deluge of events will be fast and numerous. This week’s schedule gets started early. On Thursday, the San Francisco Symphony kicks off their latest season with an Opening Night Gala (the 21 Hayes will have a re-route). Then on Saturday, it’s the costume party of the year (sorry Halloween!) as the Superhero Festival fights for truth, justice, and a howling good time!
Sunday gets started early with the Race For the Cure along The Embarcadero and goes into the evening with the Folsom Street Fair (resulting in re-routes on the 9 San Bruno, 12 Folsom/Pacific, and 47 Van Ness) and the Cole Valley Fair (with re-routes on the 6 Haight/Parnassus, 37 Corbett, and 43 Masonic).
AC/DC Concert
Friday, 8 p.m.
AT&T Park
With 40 years in the business and over 200 million records sold, it’s safe to say that AC/DC knows how to rock! Whether it’s “Highway to Hell,” “Back in Black,” or “Hell’s Bells” the beats will be deep and the riffs will be loud. When the show is over the guys from down under will have the ball park and everyone near it shaking “all night long!”
If you’re heading to the concert, Muni provides plenty of service to AT&T Park. Your options include: special event shuttle trains, N Judah, T Third, 10 Townsend, 30 Stockton, 45 Union/Van Ness, and the 47 Van Ness.
Muni service note: Muni service near the ballpark will experience delays due to increased ridership and construction work. For post-concert service, all outbound shuttle trains from AT&T Park will be allowed through the subway during the early closure and will make stops at all stations. These shuttle trains will be routed out of the subway either on the N Judah or M Oceanview lines. Bus shuttles will provide service between St. Francis Circle and 4th and King streets.
Muni Heritage Weekend
Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Steuart Street between Market and Mission streets
The fourth annual Muni Heritage Weekend is history in motion. You don’t have to be a transit geek to enjoy riding on any of Muni’s vintage and historic vehicles.
Take a free charter style ride aboard Muni’s inaugural service vehicle, streetcar number 1, or on streetcar number 578 which happens to be the oldest operated streetcar in North America. Then there’s the last surviving cable car of the defunct O’Farrell, Jones & Hyde line which will be in revenue service as part of the California Cable Car Line.
In addition to operating on a special loop from the San Francisco Railway Museum around Union Square and back, Muni’s historic buses will also serve as “galleries on wheels” featuring rarely seen photos from the agency’s photo archive.
Be sure to join the Muni Heritage contest for a chance to win a limited edition photo poster reprint from the SFMTA Photo Archive! To enter, take a photo of one of our vintage or historic vehicles and share it on social media using the hashtag #MuniHeritage. The contest runs through September 27. (As always, be sure to read the contest terms and conditions.)
Heritage Weekend visitors can take the Metro subway to Embarcadero Station; either the F Market or E Embarcadero to the Ferry Building; the 14 Mission and 14R Mission Rapid or any Market Street route to Steuart Street.
Muni service note: the F Market and California Cable Car lines may see increased ridership. Regular fares will apply to those vintage and historic vehicles operating as part of regular F Market and cable car service lines.
Construction Reminder:
The Muni Metro subway continues to close early each night at 9:30pm for system upgrades. Metro bus shuttles will operate between St. Francis Circle and Market and Spears streets from 9 p.m. to 1:30 a.m.
On Tap for next weekend: Giants Baseball, Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival, Castro Street Fair, and Bridge to Bridge Run.
