SFMTA staff holding banner and marching on Market Street during the SF Pride Parade

Our staff marched on Market Street during the San Francisco Pride Parade last year.

This year's theme for San Francisco Pride is "Beacon of Love." We are excited to come together and celebrate this vibrant community.

We’ll cover weekend events you won’t want to miss. We’ll also share how we’re taking steps to make our system safer and more inclusive for the LGBTQ+ community and all of our riders.

Ways to celebrate SF Pride this weekend:

June 28: San Francisco Trans March

  • The march begins at 6 p.m.
  • For route details, visit the SF Trans March website. You can also learn more about a resource fair run at the same location.

June 30: San Francisco Pride Parade

  • The parade begins at 10:30 a.m.
  • To find the parade route and prepare for the Civic Center Pride Festival, visit the SF Pride Parade website.

Our Marketing and Office of Racial Equity and Belonging teams will bring staff from different parts of the agency together this year to celebrate. We’ll walk in the SF Trans March today. We’ll also join the SF Pride Parade on Sunday by riding our vintage bus or walking.

We're here to help you travel to Pride events. Check out our SF Pride Weekend webpage (SFMTA.com/Pride) for information on service updates and street closures.

Raising our voices together

On Sunday, close to 50,000 parade participants plan to march down Market Street. A million people are set to watch and cheer from the sidelines.

And these Pride events are not just for celebrating. They’re also about standing up for the rights of the LGBTQ+ community and making sure their voices are heard.

The role of transportation

Transportation is crucial in making these events accessible to everyone. We’re proud to help thousands of people gather and move through public spaces at these celebrations.

It starts with creating a safe space in our transportation system, free from harassment and discrimination. That’s why we train our staff on LGBTQ+ issues and advocate for no-discrimination policies.

We also want it to be easy for you to report any harassment and discrimination while using our system. In 2022, we launched MuniSafe and the Safety Equity Initiative. Together, these programs strengthen our work to prevent and address harassment across Muni vehicles, stops and stations.

Last year, we also partnered with UCLA’s Institute of Transportation Studies for an in-depth survey about harassment experiences. Now, we’re moving forward with data-driven solutions.

To learn more about how we’re working to make our system safer, visit the MuniSafe webpage. You can also check out our MuniSafe progress and next steps blog for more details on our work.

Advocacy and inclusion

Advocating for transportation rules that include everyone is a key part of the bigger fight for LGBTQ+ rights. It means making sure LGBTQ+ folks have a say in how transportation plans are made and decisions are reached.

Transportation should be safe and inclusive for everyone. That’s why one of our top priorities is preventing harassment and discrimination on Muni and ensuring you have reporting options if it happens.

The theme for this year is "Beacon of Love," reminding us of the importance of inclusivity and support in all aspects of our lives. Let's celebrate! And let’s also advocate. This way, we can continue building a city where everyone can travel, work and live freely and safely.
