As the saying goes, not all superheroes wear capes. Some move thousands of people all over San Francisco every day. And we are celebrating those superheroes this weekend.

We recognize Muni operators who have met our safe driving standard for at least 15 years at our annual Safe Driver Awards. The standard requires an operator to drive at least 1,952 hours without any preventable incidents or collisions during the fiscal year (July – June).

We are honoring 189 operators at this year’s luncheon on March 1. Among the awardees:

  • Almost 20 reached the 15-year mark in FY 2024
  • Just under a dozen have maintained safe driving records for 30 years or more
  • Cable Car Operator Oliverio Valle has achieved 50 years of safe driving

More than 800 of our operators have met the safe driving standard for at least one year. We thank them all for their service.

Superheroes drive among us

Our operators keep Muni moving. They are an essential part of the agency, and they are invaluable to the San Franciscans who depend on public transit to get to work, school, medical appointments and other important destinations. And our customers recognize their dedication. We regularly get feedback from riders praising our operators’ professionalism, patience and commitment. They tell us about:

  • Operators who are especially kind and caring
  • Operators helping riders who have disabilities or need more time to board
  • Operators who clearly love their work

Our operators’ skill, dedication and excellence support San Francisco’s economy and vitality. Their work helps make this city a wonderful place to live. And we think that is super, indeed.
