The Mobility Management Center is located within the SF Paratransit office and is a one-stop information and referral center for older adults and people with disabilities. The Center’s services help seniors and older adults make informed decisions about their travel options. A full overview of the transportation programs we offer through SF Paratransit is available in 9. Paratransit Service Performance.
The Mobility Management Center assists approximately 400 individuals every month regarding the various programs offered through the SFMTA and SF Paratransit. The nature of each contact varies depending on the individual’s transportation needs or existing knowledge of services. Each person is provided individualized information and referrals about various programs depending on their situation, needs, and capabilities. At the Mobility Management Center, it is important to learn the unique circumstances specific to the individual to provide the most appropriate referrals to services or programs. This requires proficient rapport-building during each interaction.
Referrals are often made internally from the Mobility Management Center to other programs within SF Paratransit, such as ADA paratransit, Shop-a-Round, or travel planning. Otherwise, common referrals outside of the Mobility Management Center are focused on acquiring Senior Clipper Cards, RTC Clipper Cards, or reduced/free fare programs. When making referrals, Mobility Management staff connect individuals to the specific agency they need to communicate with and provide application materials or coaching on the necessary steps/processes to complete their referral. In addition to referrals related to transportation, the Mobility Management Center also refers individuals to at-home care through In Home Support Services (IHSS) or local Aging and Disability Resource Centers or community centers for reasons ranging from case management, social engagement, or limiting isolation. Transportation needs are often just one piece of several services an individual requires to be able to thrive in their community.
