The Balboa Park Station Area and Plaza Improvements project will break ground on Monday, February 29th to implement safety, accessibility and transit improvements around the Balboa Park Station.

The first phase of work will last about one month for Geneva Ave improvements –

  • Sidewalk widening
  • Expansion of median and addition of landscaping
  • Installation of red transit-only lanes
  • Curb ramp upgrades

                                                                                                    .

During this first phase of construction, temporary impacts will include:

Bus Stop Relocation: The bus stop located eastbound on Geneva Avenue between I-280 and San Jose Avenue will be relocated:

  • The following Muni routes will use a temporary stop at the bridge on Geneva Avenue, over the I-280 Highway:
    • 8 Bayshore
    • 8BX Bayshore B Express
  • The following Muni routes will use a temporary stop at Geneva Avenue between San Jose Avenue and the entrance for the “Kiss and Ride” Pick-Up and Drop-Off Zone:
    • 43 Masonic
    • 54 Felton
    • 88 BART Shuttle
    • 91-Owl

Entrance Closure for the “Kiss and Ride” Pick-Up and Drop-Off Zone:  A closure of this entrance is required for sewer and excavation work around the station. The “Kiss and Ride” entrance on Geneva Ave will be closed to vehicles.  Motorists should use the entrance on San Jose Avenue at Niagara Avenue.

Lane Closures for Sidewalk Widening and Curb Ramp Upgrades: On Geneva Avenue between San Jose Avenue and the I-280 highway, traffic will be taken down to one lane in each direction during non-peak hours. Motorists are encouraged to use alternative routes during this time.
