Director

Lydia So is the Founder of the architecture firm SOLYD Architecture, Management and Design and a former Historic Preservation Commissioner for the San Francisco Planning Department. She was appointed to the SFMTA Board in June 2023. Ms. So has considerable experience in public service, having served on the San Francisco Arts Commission and as a liaison to the Mayor’s Office of Housing and Community Development, where she advised on city planning and advocated for affordable housing production for all residents. A strong believer that public transit connects communities, she brings to the SFMTA Board a unique background in design, urban planning and land use and how they can shape transportation policy and transit-related priorities. As a Chinese American with strong ties to San Francisco’s AAPI community, she has championed arts, equity and sustainable growth. Ms. So and her family live in the Mission district of San Francisco.
