Western Addition Traffic Signal Upgrades Phase 2

Project Introduction

The Western Addition Traffic Signal Upgrades Phase 2 project will upgrade traffic signals at 16 locations as recommended in the Western Addition Community Based Transportation Plan. Upgrades at 12 intersections include larger 12” signal heads and mast arms to enhance signal visibility, pedestrian signal improvements including pedestrian countdown signals and accessible (audible) pedestrian signals, updated streetlighting, and updated curb ramps. Project scope also includes pedestrian activated flashing beacons at 3 locations and 1 radar speed sign at one location. Fifteen of the 16 locations are on the High Injury Network.

This project is part of the Western Addition Community Safe Streets (WACSS) project. In addition to the signal scope from the Western Addition Traffic Signal Upgrades Phase 2 project, WACSS will deliver speed reduction strategies such as 20 MPH speed limits on eligible corridors, radar speed signs, quick-build projects, and a community education outreach campaign.

The Western Addition Traffic Signal Upgrades Phase 2 project was made possible in part by Proposition L Sales Tax dollars provided by the San Francisco County Transportation Authority and a federal Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) grant.
