San FranciscoA parade and celebration will honor the World Champion San Francisco Giants along Market Street and at San Francisco’s Civic Center tomorrow afternoon. Baseball fans are encouraged to celebrate safely. To facilitate an enjoyable experience for all, the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA), which oversees all transportation in the city, including the Municipal Railway (Muni), is encouraging attendees to ride public transportation to and from the World Series celebration.

This year’s parade will launch at noon on Friday, October 31, starting at Steuart and Market streets, travel along Market Street, before making a right turn onto McAllister Street and culminating at Civic Center Plaza and City Hall. Participants should arrive early to secure a good viewing location.

The parade route will be closed to traffic beginning at 9 a.m. Road closure restrictions will remain in place until parade attendees are fully cleared from the restricted route and the roads have been cleaned by city services.

Street Closures starting tonight at approximately 7pm

  • McAllister Street (between Larkin Street and Van Ness Avenue)
  • Grove Street (between Larkin Street and Van Ness Avenue)
  • Civic Center Plaza and streets around and adjacent to City Hall

Muni will reroute.

Parade Closures starting Friday, October 31 at approximately 9am

  • Steuart Street (between Howard & Market streets)
  • Spear Street (between Howard & Market streets)
  • Main Street (between Howard & Market streets)
  • Market Street (between Steuart & 10th streets)
  • Mission Street (between Van Ness Avenue & The Embarcadero)

Please also be aware:

  • Mission Street will be closed to private automobiles but open to public transit, taxis and first responders only.  Muni routes will be diverted off Market Street onto Mission Street because of the parade.
  • No traffic or cross traffic will be permitted on Market Street between Steuart Street and Van Ness Avenue (after 9:30 a.m. and streets will re-open at approximately 5:00 p.m. or sooner.)
  • The underground Civic Center parking garage will be closed to general parking.
  • All Muni Metro trains will stop at Civic Center station for the celebration and parade, as well as at Embarcadero, Montgomery and Powell stations for the parade.
  • There will be limited bike parking available, and bicycles are not allowed on Market or Mission streets.

Public Transportation Options

Parking is expected to be limited and traffic congested. For a better celebration experience, BART, Caltrain, Golden Gate Transit, AC Transit, SamTrans and ferries will offer expanded services. For up to the minute information, visit www.511.org.

The SFMTA will supplement existing Metro service with six additional Metro shuttles. Additional service will begin at 9 a.m. and continue until restricted parade routes are cleared.

While every effort is being made to minimize congestion, the celebrations road closures or restrictions may generate delays and detours onto streets not listed above. Drivers should avoid the downtown area bounded by The Embarcadero on the east, Bryant Street on the south, Van Ness Avenue on the west and California Street on the north throughout the day.

For those who drive, Piers 30/32 on The Embarcadero at Bryant Street is recommended for parking. N Judah Muni Metro service will be available between Piers 30/32 and Market Street. This will be a family-focused event for baseball fans, and will be an alcohol-free event. San Francisco Police and Recreation and Park Departments will be on hand to monitor and enforce a zero tolerance policy for alcohol and other controlled substances in Civic Center Plaza, and will not tolerate misbehavior at the parade or after the civic celebration.
