Color curbs

Update: Fee increase effective July 1, 2012

For all new requests and for information about the Color Curb program, please call the San Francisco 311 Customer Service Center. The Center can take applications over the phone.

Merchants

If you are a merchant applying for a color curb zone near your business, please call 311 and they will take your application over the phone. You may also print and submit an application (PDF).

Once you complete and return the form with your non-refundable application processing fee (see business zone fees) on fee-required zones we will process and review your request. If your request is a yellow, white, green or blue zone and is recommended for installation, a public hearing will be scheduled to consider the matter. Upon approval and payment of any applicable installation fees, the zone will be installed as soon as scheduling permits. The agenda for upcoming color curb public hearings are available for viewing on this Web site. Since the application processing fees are non-refundable, you may wish to carefully consider the requirements for fee-required zones prior to submission of your application.

Please do not send paint/installation fees prior to receipt of an invoice or combine processing and paint/installation fees. Please send only the processing fee with your application.

Residents

If you are a resident applying for a driveway red zone, please call 311 and they will take your application over the phone. You may also print and submit an application (PDF).

Once we receive your application and processing fee for the driveway red zone, we will process and review your request. After our investigation is complete, we will send you an invoice for the paint fee or a response with our recommendation. Since the application processing fees are non-refundable, you may wish to carefully consider the requirements for fee-required zones prior to submission of your application.   See red zone fees.

Please do not send paint/installation fees prior to receipt of an invoice or combine processing and paint/installation fees. Please send only the processing fee with your application.

Word doc help and PDF help is available.

Beware of Color Curb Scams (painting address numbers on curbs)

The SFMTA has received calls from residents concerning individuals who are painting address numbers on the curb in front of residents’ property and framing it as an important service for emergency personnel. These individuals then demand money for their services. Please note that this is an ILLEGAL scam and is NOT endorsed by the SFMTA (The SFMTA’s policy is NOT to paint address numbers on the curb). In addition, the SFMTA Color Curb painting crew will NEVER demand payment on the spot or to be left in at your front door to collect.

The scammers have been going under the name of “Community Services”, “Community Address Painting Service” or similar names. The claim that they are a legitimate service is FALSE. Please refrain from giving money to these people, and call 911 if threatened.
