Buena Vista Avenue - Roosevelt Way - 17th Street Traffic Calming Project

Project Update
Buena Vista Avenue East and West:
The Community Working Group (CWG) has completed its meetings. The group emphasized the importance of improving pedestrian crossings and the group’s recommendations include devices near the intersections of Upper Terrace, Frederick Street, and Buena Vista Terrace.
Roosevelt Way:
The Community Working Group (CWG) has completed its meetings. The group emphasized the importance of improving pedestrian crossings and reducing speeds on this fast, wide, and windy street. In order to achieve that goal, the group’s recommendations include a combination of islands, parking changes, and striping changes.
17th Street:
The preliminary recommendations for the stretch of 17th Street from Roosevelt Way to Ord Street. This particular stretch provides numerous challenges beyond those on residential streets. Due to the street’s width, slope and classification as an arterial and a fire emergency route, and the desire of residents not to lose parking, the working group was more constrained in its choices along this roadway. Preliminary recommendations include an offset island near the top of the Corbin Place stairs, a bulbout at the intersection of Temple Street, and a speed-radar sign between Corbin Place and Ord Street.
