Muni Transfers/Fare Receipts

Transfers/fare receipts are issued when paying cash on regular Muni service. They are not issued or accepted for cable car or special event service. Transfers are electronically stored on your card when using Clipper® or a Limited Use Muni Ticket.

Transfers/fare receipts are valid for travel for 90 minutes from the time of issue.  Travel must be completed within the 90 minute period.  Valid transfers/fare receipts are considered Proof of Payment and must be displayed upon request.


Late Night Transfers

Late night transfers, issued by drivers on surface vehicles after 8:30 p.m., are valid until 5 a.m.

Late night transfers are not available in the Muni Metro Subway system or on fares paid with a Clipper card or Limited Use Muni Ticket. In these cases, the 90-minute transfer rule applies.

BART

Embarcadero through Balboa Park stations

A 50-cent round-trip discount is available for full fare adult customers when transferring from BART stations within San Francisco to Muni. This discount is only available on Clipper. A 25-cent discount will be automatically applied to your Muni fare when transferring from BART to Muni within one hour after exiting BART and another 25-cent discount on your return trip on Muni within 24 hours after exiting BART. This discount is not available on cable car or special event service.


Daly City BART - Clipper

You are eligible for two free rides on the 14L, 28, 28L and 54 Muni routes when transferring from the Daly City BART Station and paying your fare on Clipper. The first trip must be taken within 23 hours after exiting BART and the second within 24 hours after exiting BART for the free fare to apply. The free fare is stored automatically when you tap your Clipper card upon exit at the Daly City station. You must also tap your Clipper card upon boarding Muni for proof of payment.



BART Plus

The SFMTA will no longer participates in the BART Plus program.  Visit the BART website for more information on their other discount fare programs.

The SFMTA provides a fifty-cent discount off the adult full fare for customers transferring to Muni from the following agencies when using a Clipper card:
