About SFMTA.com

Welcome to the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) website.  The SFMTA was created in 1999, combining the Department of Parking & Traffic (DPT) and the San Francisco Municipal Railway (Muni). This website integrates all San Franciso transportation services. Through this site, visitors should be able to find everything they need to know in regards to the Muni bus, light rail, trolley and cable car service, as well as the bicycle and pedestrian programs, traffic engineering, taxis and parking management.

The new site has a fresh design which contains clear links at the top of each page with descriptive text in the body below.  The purpose of the redesign is to improve navigation for users, communication to the users, and the online presence of the SFMTA. We are committed to making sure the web content will work in any browser and can be seen at any Internet speed.

We also continue to work with the Technology Department of the Rose Resnick Lighthouse for the Blind and Visually Impaired to make our site accessible to people with visual impairments. You'll notice that the typeface for our content is larger, which should make it easier for everyone to read. We've included descriptions for our art and additional navigation support for screen readers.

Look for these features:

  • Links to other sites have a "new window" symbol beside them, such as this link to 511.org. Don't want a new window? Click the link. Want a new window? Click the "new window" symbol.
  • Every section of the website has an Updates page. Recent headlines from these also appear on our home page.
  • Recent Muni announcements and emergency announcements at transit.511.org automatically show up on our home page in the Featured Updates section.
  • In our Where to Buy Muni passes section, each business has a Plan a Trip link to the 511.org Trip Planner, so you can take Muni to buy your pass or other fare item. For example, in the list of Adult Fast Pass vendors in zip code 94102, you can plan a trip to the City Payment Center.

If you have suggestions for improvements on this website please feel to contact us at www.sfmta.com/webmaster.
