Skip to SFMTA capital projects documents American Recovery Spurs SFMTA's Infrastructure InvestmentsOver the past year, the SFMTA has been awarded more than $71 million in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funds by the Federal Transit Administration to rehabilitate, update and renew transit vehicles, facilities and vital systems, as well as to improve customer convenience features, as part of the SFMTA’s overall focus on protecting San Francisco’s infrastructure investments. The funds from the landmark ARRA, signed by President Obama last February, have enabled the SFMTA to advance key capital projects that would have otherwise been delayed due to the lack of funding, including:
Through the last reporting cycle, the Agency expended $25.8 million and created more than 600 jobs. The ARRA included $8.4 billion for public transportation across the nation, California was allocated $1.6 billion, and the Bay Area $500 million. Of this amount, the SFMTA received an initial $67 million. In September the SFMTA received an additional grant of $4.5 million. Additionally, the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) has designated funds for ready-to-go transportation projects that enhance quality of life in or around transportation facilities, with priority given to bicycle and pedestrian projects. The SFMTA will receive more than $500,000 of the Transportation Enhancement funding for two projects. The SFMTA will also receive $17.5 million in Tier II funding that will be allocated to preventative maintenance ($4.3 million) and light rail vehicle rehabilitation ($13.2). Implementation of these important projects is creating and retaining jobs while also reversing a trend of deferred maintenance and providing improvements for pedestrians, transit riders, bicyclists and motorists. The current list of SFMTA projects to be funded by ARRA funds can be found below. Once project status has been listed as "advertised” all bid-related contracting information can be found at the website of the Office of Contract Administration.
