Mother's Day Weekend Alerts & Events

Wednesday, May 6, 2015

Construction Project Reminder:
Sunset Tunnel work continues this Friday at 7 p.m. until 2 a.m., Monday. Bus shuttles will provide N Judah Line service between Duboce Avenue and Church Street and Ocean Beach. During construction, Nextbus time predictions for the N Line will not be available.

Traffic Alert:
Caltrans will close the San Mateo/Hayward Bridge in both directions beginning this Friday at 10 p.m. until 5 a.m., Monday for resurfacing and deck repair work. Expect heavier traffic on the Bay Bridge and Dumbarton Bridge. For traffic and regional service alerts visit 511.org.

This weekend, we expect the Intruders’ 1973 sentimental hit song “I’ll Always Love My Mama” to get significant air time all across the country. If you’re still wondering what, where and how to make mom’s special day a memorable one, here are some top flight options. The San Francisco Giants continue their home stand* against the Miami Marlins. The SF Jazz Center will host a special Mother’s Day Concert featuring the award winning Kronos Quartet. If mom would like to spend the afternoon out and about, then consider these events below.

(*) Check here for Muni service to and from AT&T Park.

Uncorked-SF Wine Festival
Saturday, 1 to 6 p.m.
Ghirardelli Square

If you have a fancy for wine or just want to experience the ambiance, the Uncorked SF Wine Festival down at Ghirardelli Square will be a great destination to spend the afternoon. In addition to plentiful wine and a picturesque view, there will be cooking demos by top local chefs, wine seminars and live music.

Parking in the area will be limited, so think about taking public transportation. Muni service on the 19 Polk, 30 Stockton, 47 Van Ness and 49 Mission/Van Ness routes plus the Powell Hyde Cable Car Line will get you there.

Muni service note:  the 19 Polk will have a re-route while other service routes may see minor delays due to heavier ridership.

Sunday Streets: The Mission
Sunday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Valencia Street between McCoppin and 26th streets

One of the most popular destinations on the Sunday Streets calendar returns as activities take over The Mission. Come see circus performers and interactive art, plus games, dancing, music and more. You can even bring your pets for a day of great food, weather and vibrant energy.

While most of Valencia Street will be closed to vehicles, cross traffic will be allowed at the intersections of Duboce Avenue, 14th, 16th, 18th and 24th streets.

Due to street closures, parking will be limited. Consider the F Market, 12 Folsom/Pacific, 14 Mission, 14R Mission Rapid, 27 Bryant, 33 Stanyan, 48 Quintara, 49 Mission/Van Ness, 55 16th Street, and 67 Bernal Heights routes as public transportation alternatives.

Muni service note: The 12 Folsom/Pacific, 27 Bryant, and 55 16th Street routes will have a re-routes. Expect some service delays on all Muni service in the surrounding areas due to increased vehicle and pedestrian traffic.
