Saturday, various hours
Event Summary
San Francisco is preparing for one of the most significant Fourth of July celebrations in decades. To mark the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, the city will host a special fireworks display launched from the Golden Gate Bridge—only the third time fireworks have ever been launched from the iconic span.
The event is expected to attract large crowds from across the Bay Area and beyond. In response, transportation, public safety and event agencies have been working together to develop a coordinated plan to help people travel safely and efficiently before and after the celebration.
We strongly encourage using public transit, walking and biking to get in and around San Francisco during this event. It’s an easier and safer option for everyone planning to attend or for those wanting to move around the city to various events. July 4 is always one of the busiest days of the year at San Francisco’s waterfront. This year’s fireworks location near the Golden Gate Bridge means traffic exiting the Presidio and surrounding neighborhoods will be significantly impacted. Expect long lines, delays and crowding both coming and going, similar to a major concert venue.
Those who plan to attend are encouraged to make a day of it and experience San Francisco’s unique neighborhoods.

Parking will be limited and is expected to fill early. Park early and walk to your preferred viewing area.
-
Travelers should expect extended delays arriving to and leaving the area after the fireworks display.
-
The Golden Gate Bridge will be closed to all traffic from 9 to 10 p.m. to support fireworks operations and public safety. Caltrans will be closing US-101 in both directions starting at 8 p.m. Those planning travel between Marin County and San Francisco should plan to use alternate routes through the East Bay.
