The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) releases the following upcoming event-related traffic and transit impacts for this week from Thursday, May 30 through Wednesday, June 5, 2024.

San Francisco Giants Baseball Games

Friday, May 31 through Sunday, June 2: The San Francisco Giants will play three home games at the ballpark. Listed below are start times for these games:

  • Three games against the New York Yankees: 1) 7:15 p.m., Friday May 31; 2) 7:05 p.m., Saturday, June 1 and 3) 1:05 p.m., Sunday, June 2.

Street Closures

To accommodate events that will take place at the ballpark, the following street closures will be enforced:

  • Two and a half hours before the opening pitch, the SFMTA will close eastbound King Street between 3rd and 2nd streets to vehicle traffic. King Street will reopen after first pitch until the seventh inning.
  • From the seventh inning until post-game traffic dies down, the SFMTA will again close eastbound King Street between 3rd and 2nd streets to vehicle traffic in order to reduce congestion on city streets.
  • Additionally, the northbound portion of the 4th Street Bridge (Peter R. Maloney Bridge) will be closed to all traffic except Muni, taxis and bicycles during the post-game period.

Taxi Stands

  • 2nd Street, west side, between Brannan and King Streets
  • 2nd Street, east side, between Townsend and King Streets
  • 3rd Street, west side, north of King Street

Special Event Parking Rates

During baseball games and other major events with more than 10,000 expected attendees at the ballpark, parking meters close to the ballpark will charge a special event rate of $10 per hour. These rates help reduce congestion and keep parking spots available in the neighborhoods near the ballpark, discouraging circling for free or cheap parking. Start times for special event rates vary based on the start time of the event. More information on special event parking regulations can be found on www.sfmta.com/special-event-parking.

Civic Center Concert

Saturday, June 1: Another Planet Entertainment will be putting on a major concert in Civic Center. The show will run from 5:30 to 10 p.m. Additional information of concert may be available at https://apeconcerts.com/events/fred-again-240601/.

To facilitate the event, street closures are in place from Tuesday, May 28 through Monday, June 3.

On the day of the concert, heavy pedestrian and vehicular traffic in the area should be anticipated.

The following street closures will be required:

  • From 6 a.m., Tuesday, May 28 to 4 p.m., Monday, June 3:
    • Grove Street between Polk and Larkin streets
  • From 7 p.m., Wednesday, May 29 to 4 a.m., Monday, June 3:
    • Dr Carlton B Goodlett Place / Polk Street between McAllister and Hayes streets
  • From 6 a.m., Friday, May 31 to 6 a.m. to 4 a.m., Sunday, June 2:
    • Fulton Street between Larkin and Hyde streets
  • From 7 p.m., Friday, May 31 to 4 a.m., Sunday, June 2:
    • Larkin Street between Hayes and McAllister streets
    • Grove Street between Larkin and Hyde streets
    • Grove Street between Van Ness Avenue and Polk Street

Taxi Stand

A taxi stand will be in place at 20-22 Hyde Street, south of Fulton Street.

The following Muni routes will be impacted: 19 Polk; and 21 Hayes.

Union Street Festival

Saturday, June 1 and Sunday, June 2: The 46th annual Union Street Festival will take place on Union Street between Octavia and Fillmore streets. The event will be held from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday, June 1; and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Sunday, June 2. For more details, visit www.unionstreetsf.com.

The following street closures will be required from 4 a.m., Saturday to midnight, Sunday:

  • Union Street between Octavia and Fillmore streets
  • Octavia Street between Green and Filbert streets
  • Laguna Street between Green and Filbert streets
  • Buchanan Street between Green and Filbert streets
  • Webster Street between Green and Filbert streets
  • Intersections: Union Street at Octavia, Laguna, Buchanan and Webster streets

Fillmore Street will remain open for through traffic, it may be congested due to crowds. Local access for residents will be allowed on the impacted streets except for Union Street.

Taxi Stand

A taxi stand will be in place at 2980-2998 at Union Street.

The 45 Union/Stockton Muni route will be affected.

Festa Coloniale Italiana

Saturday, June 1 and Sunday, June 2: The annual Festa Coloniale Italiana will take place in the North Beach area along Stockton Street between Union and Filbert streets from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more event details, visit www.sfiacfoundation.com.

The following street closures will be required from 4 a.m., Saturday, June 1 to 10 p.m., Sunday, June 2:

  • Stockton Street between Union and Filbert streets
  • Filbert Street between Stockton and Powell streets

The 39-Coit Muni route will be affected.

Statuto Race

Sunday, June 2: The 103rd annual Italian Club Statuto Race will begin at 9 a.m. in North Beach. This race consists of an eight-mile run and a two-mile walk starting from Washington Square Park to North Point to Herb Caen Way along the waterfront to Bryant Street and return to Washington Square. The following street closures will be required from 7 a.m. to noon:

  • Stockton Street between Union and Filbert streets
  • North Point Street between Stockton Street and The Embarcadero

The 39 Coit Muni route will be affected.

Ruth Jackson Sunnydale Family Day

Sunday, June 2: The Ruth Jackson Sunnydale Family Day at Hertz Playground provides community members a chance to gather for a fantastic day of fun and entertainment that will feature a parade, car show, performances, a raffle, and plenty of activities to keep the kids busy.

The parade will start at Velasco Avenue and Santos Street proceeding along Santos onto Sunnydale Avenue culminating on Hahn Street at Visitacion Avenue.

Due to street closures, limited parking and heavier than usual pedestrian activity, event goers should consider using public transportation. Muni routes 8 Bayshore, 9 San Bruno and 56 Rutland will take customers to close the festivities.

The following street closures will be in effect from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., Sunday:

  • Hahn Street between Sunnydale and Visitacion avenues
  • Visitacion Avenue between Mansell and Hahn streets
  • Leland Avenue between Sawyer Street to Visitacion Avenue

The 8 Bayshore and 56 Rutland Muni routes will be re-routed.

San Francisco Unified School District High School Commencements

Monday, June 3 through Wednesday, June 5: San Francisco Unified School District will host high school graduation commencements at Kezar Stadium and at Jerry Garcia Amphitheater in McLaren Park. For more details, visit www.sfusd.edu/05-23-2024-graduation.

Motorists traveling to and from the ceremonies should expect heavy traffic around the event areas. Congestion and heavy traffic on Frederick Street between Stanyan Street and Lincoln Way are anticipated.

CONSTRUCTION WORK AND OTHER UPDATES

Bus Bridge from Daly City to 24th Street BART Stations

Saturday, June 1 and Sunday, June 2: BART will be closing the section of track between 24th Street/Mission and Daly City stations to make track upgrades and clear vegetation. This work will require a bus bridge between these two stations to be served by SamTrans and MUNI. Riders should expect delays of up to 30 minutes this weekend.

During construction Muni88-BART Bus Bridge shuttle will operate between Daly City and 24th Street/Mission BART stations, making stops at Daly City, Balboa Park, Glen Park and 24th Street/Mission stations. Operation hours are as follows:

  • From 6 a.m., Saturday, June 1 to 1 a.m., Sunday, June 2
  • From 8 a.m., Sunday, June 2 to 1 a.m., Monday, June 3

UPDATE: L Taraval Improvement Project—Segment B

The L Taraval Improvement Project is a multi-agency collaboration to improve safety, accessibility, and transit reliability, and to rehabilitate aging rails, utility lines and roadway pavement along the L Taraval line between Sunset Boulevard and 15th Avenue and on Ulloa Street near West Portal.

Work to replace sewer, water, rail lines and streetbase has been completed. Construction work continues to install boarding islands with accessible curb ramps, handrails and pavers.

Special track work at 46th Avenue is expected to be completed on Tuesday, June 4. Buses will be rerouted around the construction area. The intersection on the south side will be closed to northbound traffic.

Curb-to-curb repaving of the entire Taraval corridor started between 28th and 37th avenues is expected to be completed by Wednesday, May 29. There will be no bus reroutes around the repaving area.

Beginning on Friday, May 31, the OCS lines will be re-energized to accommodate testing of the trains. To ensure the safety of the public, if you or your contractor are planning any work within 10 feet of the overhead wires, a permit is required. Taraval Street

  • From 15th to 19th avenues:
    • Boarding Islands and Platforms
  • From 19th to 28th avenues:
    • Construction of barrier railing and pavers on accessible boarding platforms
  • From 28th to 37th avenues, including Sunset Boulevard:
    • Grinding and repaving, construction of boarding islands and platforms

46th Avenue Track Work

  • Installation

Nighttime work is scheduled from Sunday through Friday, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., Sundays through Fridays

  • Ulloa Street between 15th and Forest Side avenues: OCS prep work for installation, removing and reconstructing existing poles, upgrade the Overhead Contact System (OCS) that powers the trains. Work on any given block will vary and is expected to take a few hours to a few days per location. OCS work is expected to be completed in June 2024.

The L Bus now runs between West Portal and the SF Zoo. Customers can transfer to a train at West Portal Station to travel downtown. An interactive bus reroute map with temporary bus stop relocations citywide during construction can be found on Interactive Bus Reroute.

During construction, the L Taraval bus stops are being relocated. The inbound bus stop at Taraval Street and 15th Avenue has been relocated across the intersection until fall 2024.

  • 18 46th Avenue (Monday, May 6 to Tuesday, June 4, 2024)
    • Inbound
      • From 46th Avenue and Santiago Street to northeast corner
    • Outbound
      • From 46th Avenue and Taraval Street to 45th Avenue & Taraval Street, southwest corner
  • L Taraval Bus / L Owl (Monday, May 6 to Tuesday, June 4, 2024)
    • Outbound
      • From Taraval Street and 46th Avenue to 45th Avenue and Taraval Street, southwest corner.

Masks Recommended

Masks are no longer required, but are encouraged in any SFMTA facilities, transit hubs or on vehicles including Muni buses, streetcars, light rail vehicles or cable cars or in taxis or on paratransit.

ONGOING: Essential Trip Card Discount Program

The SFMTA’s program, Essential Trip Card (ETC) Program, assists people with disabilities and older adults to make essential trips using taxis. The program provides two to three round trips at an 80% discount per month, i.e. rider pays $6 to receive a value of $30 or pays $12 to receive a $60 value. If essential needs require it, riders may receive additional value up to $120 of taxi service per month.

To qualify for the program, customer must be either age 65 or older or an adult with disabilities. Eligible adults may apply for the ETC program by calling the Paratransit Mobility Management office at 415-351-7053.
