SFO Taxi Pickup Policy

Beginning Tuesday, December 1, 2020, only Purchased medallions (P-Taxis) and ramp taxis will be allowed to pick-up at SFO.

All policies are subject to change and modification based on operational needs. Taxi drivers should always follow the instructions of the taxi starter.

In the rare event of a lack of taxi supply at SFO, Post-K taxis (K-Taxis) may be temporarily allowed at SFO. If this occurs, taxi dispatch centers will be notified and asked to share the information with their affiliates.


P-Taxis

Vehicle number begins with a “P”.  Vehicles operating Purchased medallions must have a "p" prefix applied to the medallion number on the outside of the vehicle. (Sample photo below)

SHORTS

Short rules and short flow through the lot remains the same. A new version of the Short app will be released soon and it will be required that all drivers download the new app to take advantage of short privileges. Subscribe to notices to be informed when the new app is ready for download.

LONGS

All non-short drivers wait in the same line

  1. Enter Lot 3 as normal and queue
  2. If directed, proceed to Lot 4 and queue
  3. Cross into Lot 2 and queue
  4. Exit Lot 2 as directed by staff and pay your trip fee at the payment gates
  5. Enter Lot 1 and queue in the Long line before being send to the terminals as directed.

NOTES:

  • During the Covid pandemic, many lots may be closed. You may be directed to go directly to Lot 2 and/or bypass Lot 1.
  • Keep intersections clear.
  • Drivers will be exited if the lots are full when they arrive.

K-Taxis

Vehicle number begins with a “K”. Vehicles operating Post-K medallions must have a "K" prefix applied to their vehicle. (Sample photo below)

NO PICKUPS

Drivers may only drop off passengers at SFO, they are not eligible to pick up passengers.


Ramp Taxis

The wheelchair-accessible taxi (numbered in the 9000s)

STANDARD

Have the same pickup privileges as “P-Taxis” (see “P-Taxis”)

SHORT TRIPS

As an incentive for meeting wheelchair pick-up thresholds, ramp taxi drivers may earn short trips at SFO. Please see Ramp Taxi Incentives for more detail.


All Other Taxis

Vehicle number begins with “T” or is numbered in the 2000s or 8000s.  Vehicles operating Pre-K or Corporate medallions must have a 'T' prefix applied to their vehicle. (Sample photo below)

NO PICKUPS

Drivers may only drop off passengers at SFO, they are not eligible to pick up passengers.
